Closing Date: 12.10 2018. Fresh and experimental pilot approaches are sought to four specific problems at the intersection of AI and the news:
- Governing the Platforms to ensure that AI serves the public good through accountability, governance, public awareness, and transparency
- Stopping Bad Actors through approaches to detect and counter the next generation of propaganda.
- Empowering Journalism to help shape public understanding of AI, its impact on the information ecosystem, and what is necessary to ensure the ethical use of technology.
- Reimagining AI and News to better serve the public good?
Open to anyone, of any age, from anywhere in the world. Applications must be submitted in English.
Winners will receive a share of USD $750,000 to test, refine and build out a their early-stage projects.
The challenge is hosted by the Ethics and Governance of AI Initiative, a hybrid research effort and philanthropic fund that seeks to ensure that technologies of automation and machine learning are researched, developed, and deployed in a way which vindicate social values of fairness, human autonomy, and justice. The AI Initiative is a joint project of the MIT Media Lab and the Harvard Berkman-Klein Center for Internet and Society.
