Marion Gräfin Dönhoff Journalist Fellowship [Internationale Journalisten-Programme]

Applications Due 15.4 2019. Fellowship gives young journalists (ages 25-35) from Germany and Eastern Europe the opportunity to gain a personal impression of current political, economic, cultural developments and backgrounds, as well as everyday social life in their host countries. It offers the unique opportunity to work in a foreign journalistic work environment and to get an insight into the local media landscape.

The program enables five German journalists to work as guest editor for two months in an Eastern European editorial office (in a Russian-language medium). The program will also enable journalists from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan to apply for a two-month work visit to Germany.

Open to German and Eastern European journalists aged 23 and 35, who regularly work as freelancers, volunteers or editors for German or Eastern European newspapers, radio stations, TV stations or on-line editorial offices. Good German skills are required for the Eastern European applicants. Applicants from Germany are expected to speak Russian.

The scholarship consists of a one-time payment of EUR 3,800. This amount is intended to cover travel expenses, meals and accommodation during their stay abroad, visa fees and health insurance. There is no remuneration for local journalistic activity. A postponement of the guest stay is not possible.
